This year has been filled with graduations. All of my baby cousins are growing up! I feel old, so very old. My  thirteen or fourteen year old cousin (I forget) is graduating middle school. I know it isn't that big of a deal, but since I'm going to be in LA for his graduation and love him very much, I made him a little something.

I made a quick trip to Home Depot after spending an afternoon telling kids to not run up the slide (I'm a volunteer yard-duty), I spray painted my cousin the Nightwing symbol. Nightwing is his favorite superhero.

I cut out the Nightwing logo and spray painted the background. I rubber cemented the logo onto the canvas and peeled it off after the background dried. Some paint managed to get under paper, bleh! I'm still figuring out how to stop the spray paint from leaking under.

After that, I used painter's tape and covered the background with it, leaving only the white logo exposed. I then spray painted the logo blue. Spray paint is much, much more difficult to control than I thought it'd be. I prefer the old paint brush to canvas technique.

Excuse the poor photo quality

Perhaps I should have left the logo white, but the blue makes it look like the actual Nightwing symbol. It is still kind of messy and I will have to clean it up, but for the most part, I enjoyed making it. I don't know if I'll ever use spray paint on a canvas again, but this was a bit faster than just painting it with a brush.

Hopefully he'll love it. .
